I believe the only way to create the change Portland needs is to prioritize equity, set concrete goals and allocate resources accordingly. With an $8 billion budget, we should be able to ensure everyone thrives. I will work collaboratively with the other council members–as well as county, state and federal officials–to achieve the following goals.

by building 2000 more trauma-informed shelter beds within 18 months, prioritizing families, youth and elders, and reuniting homeless individuals with their families.

by building four sobering centers, tripling detox capacity, and adding 1000 sober housing beds in order to ensure immediate access to care.

Slash the Addiction Rate

Establish a local government task force to evaluate ALL local taxes passed in the last 30 years and propose a ballot measure that reduces the total tax burden for lower and middle income Portlanders. &nbsp;

Implement Tax Reform

by reopening closed pools and opening new pools in more neighborhoods to eliminate long wait times for swim lessons.

Improve Access to Swim Lessons

by restoring Portland’s national brand, placing community safety officers in merchant districts, and enforcing city code requiring active ground floor use of retail spaces..

Promote REAL Economic Vitality

Hire 200 more police officers who actually live in Portland and expand Portland Street Response to operate 24/7.

Improve Public Safety

by reducing barriers to middle-income housing construction, allowing modular housing in every neighborhood, and reducing permitting costs of ADUs.

Make Housing Affordable Again

by piloting a minimum basic income program for families and older Portlanders.

Cut Poverty Rates

by incentivizing “home-sharing,” building 2,500 modular homes, and establishing a culturally responsive city-wide adult day care system.

Help Seniors Thrive

by making public transportation free and dramatically increasing the city tree canopy.

Mitigate Climate Change

by requiring that city employees work remotely no more than one day per week, implementing a constituent service system, and requiring customer satisfaction goals for city agencies.
